Author Bio

Bruce Ryan was born in the city of Lithgow NSW and still lives in the community. As a student he was hampered by dyslexia and learned to read late and with great difficulty. Not the perfect preparation for a writer but being a storyteller, it seemed natural that he wanted to write. Clinging is his third book (which was his second book completed) and is a forerunner to Bibighar, set to be published soon.

Bruce has become more able to spend time writing following a severe spinal injury that has limited his movement in recent years.

Clinging is set in a very different place and time, the early 1800s, starting in England. It follows a lower socio-economic family with no real prospects. An alcoholic father and the death of their mother and younger sister sees the three brothers separated. George ends up in an orphanage and the real story begins.

Clinging is based on an actual family though the names have been changed in respect of living family members. Bruce hopes you will enjoy Clinging.

Clinging

Death split his family apart. Now half a world away, George dedicates his life to fighting the injustice...

Sweeping from early 1800s England to the early colonies of Australia, George Douglas is raised in an orphanage after the death of his mother and sister and the traumatic separation from his two remaining brothers.

Clinging tells the story of a man who, with little to his name but a troubled history, spends his years fighting the unjust treatment of First Australians at the hands of greedy immigrant land holders.

Fighting for the Wiradjuri people, George sees firsthand the cruelty of a new colonial Australia establishment and risks his life to protect and amend these atrocities.

“A timely and moving book that angers, inspires and delivers compassion and truth to our darkened history… Brilliant work…” Taryn, Readalot reviewer
