Author Bio

My name is Jacob Gordon and I am an Australian writer, teacher and artist. I have spent time traveling the world, meeting various kinds of people from all parts of life and during my time I noticed how much we rely on the good nature of all people. This is where the creation of our picture story book Beyond the Storm originates - the understanding that in the end, there is good in the world and beyond trauma there is peace. I think we need that now more than ever.Jade Hunter-Hybert's ability to create magic through illustration using colour, tone, line and aesthetics together with my passion of poetry and the written word called for a story to be told; a story that could be shared in the comfort of family homes across the world. Beyond the Storm takes them on a journey through the woods out to the sea as a storm tears through the night, seemingly destroying what has been. There is no better teacher than nature. This storm reiterates the social issues the world is facing. It is written to remind us that when we are working together, for the good of ourselves and others, we are evidently making our way through the darkness; bringing with us a brighter tomorrow.Aimed to be read to children and by children in the middle aged bracket who have enjoyed stories of Julia Donaldson, Giles Andreae and Jane Yolen's whimsical feel of her picture story book Owl Moon. With no previous publishing history, I am a debut author and Jade is a debut illustrator. With several other books coming, we endeavour to use this story as our launch to share our stories with you, beginning with the turn of that first page in the warmth of your home.My mother always said that it is evidently our choices that we should be grateful for - that judgment is the cause for opportunity. As such, I am grateful for the opportunity to share this with you and look forward to the possibility of writing for you in the future.

Where there is darkness, there most certainly is light.

Whether it be on the horizon or beyond, light certainly will come at a stage and in a form we may not recognise.

This picture story book shares a whimsical tale that aims to lighten up family homes by the words and illustrations spread throughout the pages. A story of overcoming fear and danger through troubled times, reminding us all to stand together.

Using couplets, elements of alliteration, onomatopoeia and patterned rhyme, this book tells of the affects felt in a far-away woodland from a dangerous storm.

It can be read as a bed-time story or used as a tool in the classroom for children from early years and beyond.
