Jodi Mac Nish   - PLAYTIME AUTHOR

Cy loves to go on adventures! There’s so much to see and so much to learn.

I wonder where Cy will take us today?

Who inspires you? My Nephew and Niece

How many books have you published?

This is my first released but we have five in the process and coming out in 2021. Very excited..!

When did you first realise you wanted to be a writer?

I’ve always enjoyed writing from a young age.

How long does it take you to write a book?

To actually write, for these short stories, it only took 15-20 minutes but the conception and idea creatin can stew in my mind for weeks until it has the secret elements i need to make it all fit together. The simpler the tale the more challenging, to be honest...

What is your work schedule like when you're writing?

It varies as I'm a shift worker.

What would you say is your interesting writing quirk?

I like to rhyme

How did you find the publishing process?

It was daunting at first but I'm enjoying the learning curve.

Where do you get your information or ideas for your books?
My nephew and my friends children and what they enjoy doing.

When did you write your first book and how old were you?

I was always writing short novels in primary school

What do you like to do when you're not writing?

I love camping and spending time at the beach. I also love lazy movie days and going on road trips

What does your family think of your writing?

They love it

What was one of the most surprising things you learned in creating your books?
That it could become more than just a hobby for me. Also that there is also WAY more behind the scenes stuff that goes into publishing.

How many books have you written? Which is your favourite?

I've written a series of 5 small stories and if i have to pic one, it'd be Cy’s Adventures - Space.

The second book in the series.

Do you have any suggestions to help others become a better writer?

If you really enjoy writing then go for it! don't be afraid to share your work with others. Don't force it. If you feel like you're forcing the writing, take a break and reset your mind. You will be able to find the flow again when your not forcing it.

Do you hear from your readers much? What kinds of things do they say?

I've only sent it to my family and close friend and they absolutely love Cy

Do you like to create books for adults/kids/cause? Why?

I love writing for kids because i really enjoy being able to se life through their eyes.

What do you think makes a good story? I love suspense and plot twists

As a child, what did you want to do when you grew up?

I wanted to be sports therapist and work for the West Coast Eagles

What are your plans for your future book/s?

If these books take off, I want to write a Christmas one,

“Cy Becomes a Big Brother” and learning feelings

What tips would you share with other new writers about your learning?

Don't be afraid to ask for help. make sure you have a good support group.

What were your inspirations?

I wrote the first of Cy’s Adventures for my nephew because I thought it’d be a cute present for him when he got a little older and then I forgot about it. When I found it again, almost three years later, i was blown away by how many of my friends thought i should write more! When I started writing the second one, the ideas just started flowing and that was when I thought I was really onto something. I now have a niece too and both my niece and nephew love books and it made me super happy thinking that one day they could own books written for them by their Aunt.

I want my books to get children interested in reading and learning. By having repetitive beginnings, the familiar pattern will make it easier for the children to remember and engage with. I wanted to write about fun adventures that can have the readers playing games at home and creating their own Cy’s Adventures!

How you decided on the characters in the book would be an interesting concept

to describe for us please?

I used to draw Cy all over my school work and thought it’d be fun to bring him to life.

What drew you to the subject matter or the characters? Cy is cute, simple and unique.

What was the biggest challenge when writing the book?

Coming up with the right ideas for adventures.
