Written to inspire fellow sufferers of mental illness to rise above their symptoms and make a success of their lives; and, to encourage non-sufferers to tolerate, support and even love those afflicted in their quest to live a "normal" life. The "A Life Singular" series is Lorraine's life's work, intent on demystifying mental illness by weaving clues through an enticing world of celebrity, music and travel.

Everyone has a life singular. One… Unique…  Extraordinary. One true love for life…

Jeff Diamond had built a life of influence, adulation and wealth by making the right choices for the right reasons.  He lived by the law of reciprocity. A lesson learned on the streets as a teenager with nothing but an unquenchable thirst for knowledge.  Plagued by the scars of a violent childhood, he created his vision and fought for it.  And once he no longer needed to fight for himself, he fought for others.

Yet when Jeff's dream girl was taken from him, and their children, by the ignorant act of a jealous misfit from his home town, the millionaire realised just how far he had come.  Why had he succeeded when so many like him fail?  It wasn't complicated—the secret lay in the endless pursuit of love and wisdom; life's two magic ingredients.

“There is so much happening in what is a beautiful story about life and love. Even more appealing than your typical love story is how the author has embedded into the storyline some of the more difficult social questions that we often avoid addressing, making it more intellectual than your typical love story. I can’t wait to read the next book in the series!” Jenny, 5 STAR review

A Life Singular is the first title by Lorraine to be released through Shawline Publishing Group with the expected complete  seven book series being released over the next few years.

Lorraine’s aim is to support others suffering from PTSD, depression and anxiety and also to explain what life is like for people who suffer, regardless of how wealthy or successful. The themes are living and coping with mental illness, the choices we make between right and wrong, and how our perspectives change over the relentless passage of time.

The series is a somewhat introverted love story steeped in celebrity and music.

Lorraine Pestell was born in London and has enjoyed a successful IT career in the UK, US, Europe, Singapore, and more recently, Australia. She currently resides on the outskirts of Brisbane with her rescued Belgian Shepherd, Nikki.

Some Q&A from Lorraine on her book series and its development –

1)       Why you wrote this book - what were your inspirations?

The “A Life Singular” series is my life’s work.  It began when I was 14 years old as a teenager’s love story.  Over the years, as my life took several nasty twists and turns (violent marriage, sociopath partners and bosses), the books became a therapeutic vehicle for me to try and make sense of the world.  I wanted to stage the plot in the glitz and glamour of celebrity to attract readers into a world that fascinates so many people in a way of educating while entertaining.

2)       How did you decide on the characters in the book would also be an interesting concept to include?

Jeff’s manager, Gerry Blake, has never had a moment of self-doubt and has sailed through life without hardship.  Even he is devastated at Lynn’s death and the impact it has on his famous clients.

Presenting the couple’s two children as very different characters but united by the same values and familial bond.

Jeff’s parents-in-law are conservative, traditional, stoic, in contrast to Jeff, who wears his heart on his sleeve and uses every opportunity to appeal to people’s emotions.

Introducing people from different religions to illustrate the similarities of all humankind when it comes to family, love, life and death.

3)       What drew you to the subject matter or the characters?

I wanted to explain what it’s like to live with chronic mental illness, as a shy, introverted loner in a world that seems to be made for social and gregarious people.  I have 50+ years of lived experience, along with the experience of family and friends and extensive reading on the topic. I’m from a musical family, performing as children and finding joy in music. I believe education and the accumulation of knowledge / wisdom as the key to overcoming many social issues.
